At Malpas Dental Surgery, we promote preventive dentistry, starting as soon as your child’s teeth begin to appear. This could be from as early as 4 months to as late as 18 months.
We believe that good oral hygiene should be taught from a young age, as it is an investment in their health that would stay with them for life. It can be useful to set a good example by taking care of your own teeth and by having regular dental check-ups. Children often have unique dental needs, which is why we offer specialized children’s dental services that specifically cater to them.
We see children on the NHS and they do not have to pay a fee for pediatric dental care. (under 18)
We speak to the parent and the child together during each dental examination and offer dietary advice (and analysis if the parent wishes). We also suggest an age-appropriate oral hygiene regime.
In case further pediatric dental care is required, we would refer your child to a specialist children’s dentist (paedodontist). Pediatric alignment problems, however, are referred to an orthodontist.
Our children’s dental services involve teaching your children to look after their teeth, brushing techniques, diet advice, and more.
Occasionally, if treatment requirements necessitate, we might have to refer your child to a specialist children’s dentist called a Paedodontist. We generally refer all pediatric alignment problems to an Orthodontist.
Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove plaque-the sticky film on teeth that’s the main cause of tooth decay.
Eat a well-balanced diet that limits starchy or sugary foods, which produce plaque acids that cause tooth decay. When you do eat these foods, try to eat them with your meal instead of as a snack as this limits the time the teeth are exposed to acids produced by plaque bacteria.
Take your child to our dentist for regular check-ups.
